Stage 1: Water Loss Snapshot
Preliminary Screening (No Cost)
The Water Loss Snapshot provides a rapid, screening-level evaluation of municipal water system performance. Using either Minimum Nighttime Flow (MNF) or Daily System Volume (DSV), RPM compares anticipated water demand against measured system output to identify potential discrepancies and early indicators of system loss.
This initial assessment is designed to give municipalities a clear, accessible understanding of whether their system is performing as expected without requiring a significant time or resource commitment.
The Snapshot provides:
An estimated discrepancy between expected demand and actual production
Financial cost estimates for both expected and current production levels
An estimated annual cost of treated water loss
An indication of potential resource depletion
A structured recommendation for next steps
At this stage, the goal is to answer some critical questions:
Are we operating within a reasonable range?
Is further structured analysis warranted?
Is there an indication that corrective action may be needed?
To ensure accuracy at the screening level, RPM can also provide an independent baseline verification if a municipality’s internal demand estimate differs materially from the modeled benchmark. In these cases, a second Snapshot may be completed at no cost using an independently derived baseline, helping to avoid overstating or understating potential system loss.
